In December 21, 2016, the European Commission for standardization issued EN 71-12:2016 "N- nitrosamine and N- nitrosamine compounds". EN 71-12:2016 will be transformed into a member state standard by June 2017, and the conflict standard will be revoked at the latest before that date, replacing the previous EN 71-12:2013. The standard is expected to be published in the EU official communique as a new coordination standard for toy safety directives.
Major amendments to EN 71-12:2016
One
Revising the definition of "finger paint", which is consistent with the definition of the European standard "toy safety seventh part: requirements and testing methods of finger painting pigments" (EN 71-7:2014).
Two
Modify the definition of "elastomer" and use the ISO standard "ISO 472:2013" to describe the "elastomer".
Three
The porous Shi Motan (PGC) reversed phase (C18) high performance liquid chromatography (HLPC) column is allowed to be used as an alternative to analytical tests.
Four
New extraction procedures for toys and toy parts except balloons.
Five
A multiple response monitoring transformation (MRM- transformation) method for quantitative and qualitative analysis is added.
For children with less than 36 months of age, the number of toys that can be put into the mouth is strictly limited.
EN 71-12:2016 limits the limit of N- nitrosamines and N- nitroso compounds in the paints. It is noteworthy that the toys made of elastic system are divided into 36 parts in detail, and the limits of N- nitrosamines and N- nitroso substances in the elastic toys that can be put into the mouth are more stringent.
Detailed indicators are shown in the table below.

Toy export enterprises are in line with the requirements of the new standard, and the formamide limitation of the EU toy safety directive will also take effect in May. [child products] in May 24, 2017, the formamide limitation of the EU toy safety directive will be implemented. European toy enterprises should do well.
