The Ministry of Agriculture announced on 28 March that the "maximum residue limits of pesticides in food safety national standard food" 2016 edition was promulgated and implemented recently. The new national standard of pesticide residues has made a breakthrough in the standard quantity and coverage rate, basically covering the main agricultural products approved by China and the daily consumption of residents.
The new national standard of pesticide residues stipulates 4140 residue limits of 433 pesticides in 13 categories of agricultural products, 490 increase compared with 2014 editions. Compared with the previous edition, the new version of pesticide residue limits is more stringent for the detection of banned and restricted pesticides. The system has formulated the maximum residue limits of 184 pesticides, including 24 kinds of banned and restricted pesticides, such as benzene, phosphorus, etc., which provides a basis for the supervision of illegal use of banned pesticides.
At the same time, according to international practice, the maximum residue limits in food were exempt from the 33 pesticides without dietary risk, which enhanced the scientificity, practicability and systematization of pesticide residue standards in Chinese food. "Exemption" means that there is no need to set limit standards and only catalog management.
The responsible person of the Ministry of agriculture's agricultural products quality and Safety Supervision Bureau said that the pesticide residue limits released in China are based on China's pesticide residue field test data, household consumption data, pesticide toxicology data and domestic agricultural product market monitoring data.
During the formulation of standards, relevant departments have extensively consulted all aspects of production, scientific research, management and public opinions, and accepted the comments of members of the World Trade Organization on scientific standards. They are also based on ensuring the quality and safety of agricultural products, while adapting to the reality of agricultural production in China.
