According to the daily mail of London, an expert group of WHO (WHO) has confirmed that a chemical 2- mercapto benzazole (MBT), widely used in rubber products, has been found to be carcinogenic, and its carcinogenic risk is classified as red meat. It is reported that MBT containing rubber products include baby pacifier and condom. However, world health experts emphasize that the public need not worry too much about everyday rubber products. The rubber powder with MBT component is a rubber particle obtained from quenching of the reclaimed tire. It was originally identified as an allergenic substance. But at the chemical conference in Lyon, France, 24 experts from eight countries indicated that there was enough evidence to prove that MBT was carcinogenic. According to world health officials, the risk of MBT is the same as that of red meat, which is next to smoking cigarettes. Professor kemhaute, one of the members of the Chemistry Conference, believes that infant pacifiers and plastic gloves contain MBT; who acknowledges that it is not clear how large the scale of MBT risks is, and calls on people to ask whether products have MBT components before buying plastic products. The study also shows that MBT is associated with bladder cancer, bowel cancer and a type of blood cancer, but research does not confirm that MBT is the only culprit leading to these cancers.
