On June 2016 6-10, the international project committee member, ISO/PC 283, who was responsible for the development of ISO 45001:2017, held a meeting in Toronto, Canada, to discuss more than 3000 opinions submitted during the voting process and to decide on the next stage of standard setting, consultation and voting. The new version of ISO 45001 is expected to be released in the second half of 2017.
ISO 45001, the international standard for occupational health and safety, is the first international standard draft (DIS).
The project committee, which is responsible for the formulation of the new standards, is meeting last week. It discussed the more than 3000 opinions submitted during the voting process, and made resolutions on the next stage of standard setting, consultation and voting.
At the first time, SGS shared some important points reached in this meeting:
1, although the first edition of the draft international standard draft of ISO 45001 (DIS) failed to pass the vote in a slightly higher proportion than the required requirement, the first version of DIS still received the support and support of the 71% majority.Therefore, the formulation of the ISO 45001 standard will not be suspended, and the final version is expected to be released in the second half of 2017.
2, the Committee has agreed to continue to draft the second edition of the draft international standard (DIS) and plan to release it in December 2016 or January 2017.
3, the meeting focused on some minor changes in terminology and fields, such as "employee", "harm", "participation and consultation", "consciousness", "priority of control" and so on.
After a week's meeting, ISO/PC 283 has confirmed that ISO 45001 will enter the Second Edition (DIS2) stage of the draft international standard, and the timetable is expected to be available in early 2017.
The latest timetable is as follows:
August 2016 /9 - draft group meeting to review remaining comments and suggestions
October 2016 - plenary meeting; if agreed, the draft will become DIS2.
February 2017 /3 - DIS2 two months' polling period
May 2017 - plenary meeting, review of DIS2's comments and suggestions, and voting.
If no international standard final draft (FDIS) is needed, ISO 45001 will be released in June 2017. If FDIS is needed, it is likely to be released in November 2017.
"The Toronto conference has resolved some of the problems found in the last ballot," said Mr. Steve Williams, manager of LRQA system and management. "But further work is needed for other opinions that have not been evaluated. Although this has delayed the release of standards, we should take a positive look at this problem, because this provides an opportunity for us to have more time to improve and improve ISO/DIS 45001. "
